Existing Ground
Along a trace, an EG profile is required so that the designed drill can connect to the ground surface. An EG profile is a Civil 3D object of type Profile.
The source of this object may be a previously created terrain model. In that case a Surface Profile object is generated as an EG profile and it will remain dynamically connected to that model. If no terrain model is available, an EG profile can be constructed based on 3D objects or an average height. The result is a Layout Profile object that is not dynamically linked to the original data.
If 3D objects are chosen, the software asks to select 3D objects along the intended trace, for example spot elevations, 3D polylines, and other 3D objects.
In the next step the trace can be generated.
