Existing Ground

To generate a terrain model, use the indicated button on the Palette:

A terrain model is optional but it offers many advantages over a static EG line. An EG profile linked to a terrain model will update itself if the trace is dragged or extended. A static EG line will not. The more a trace is moved, the less such a static EG line corresponds to reality. A terrain model is a Civil 3D object of type Surface. With this function it is possible to generate a model with a minimum of data. It is also possible for advanced Civil 3D users to create a Surface in other ways that will later be used as a source for the EG profile.
